About Faithfulness to God

Although Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he continued . . . to get down on his knees three times a day to pray to his God . . .
— Daniel 6:10 (NSRVA)

Jealousy, betrayal, and threatened death are just as common today as they were in the time of Daniel. Many of the tragedies we read about in our newspapers began with envy and fear. This story assures those who are victims of jealousy and plotting that God stands with them in their problems.

We may not have court intrigue in the U.S.A., but we all know of plots to destroy position or reputation. They happen in offices, social clubs, families, and even in churches. Some people do not want to see others succeed. We love to knock important people off the pedestals which we have created for them.

Daniel’s awe of God was greater than his fear of the lions. He continued to be the same person he had always been, praying regularly and recognizing God’s place in his life.

There is a lesson here for us. We should not allow outside pressures to change our relationship with God. If we are faithful, we will recognize God’s faithfulness to us.

For Reflection: Am I as faithful to God as God is to me?

A Prayer Seed:

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changes not, Thy compassions they fail not;
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.
