Come As a Child
"Scripture does not suggest that we become children. . . neither does it suggest that we become childish. Jesus said we must have child-like faith.”
Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:2 NRSV)
Make Me Curious
"There are relatively few adults who are still curious. . . [but] a closed mind never learns anything."
They found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. (Luke 2:46 NRSV)
Make Me Honest
"Once your mind and heart are open and eager, you can learn to be honest with yourself."
God, be merciful to me, a sinner! (Luke 18:13b NRSV)
Make Me Humble
"... the humble are happy because they don’t have to pretend anymore. They can just be themselves."
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. (Philippians 2:3 NRSV)
Make Me Trusting
"It is very easy to allow worries, fears, anxieties, and even our dreams about next week or next year to spoil our happiness today."
If God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? (Matthew 6:30 NRSV)
Make Me Sincere
". . . come to God as children, growing and developing into the people of God."
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. (Matthew 5:8 NRSV)
Make Me Grow Up!
“We cannot truly share the good news of God’s love if our own faith and knowledge are still at the kindergarten level.”
But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ. (Ephesians 4:15 NRSV)
