1. What Do You Lack?
There is an expression, “not worth a plugged nickel.” To “plug” a coin means to cut out a core and fill it with less valuable metal.
2. A Sense of the Presence of God
At Hampton Court in England there once was a large grapevine. The base was almost seven feet around, and the main vine was 122 feet long. Much time and care were spent in pruning the vine so that hundreds of clusters of deep purple grapes hung from it every year.
3. A Sense of Worth
If you have ever slept under the stars at night, you were impressed by their number and variety. The same Psalm which describes God’s greatness in creating the heavens goes on to say that mortals were made a little lower than God.
4. A Sense of Mission
You are important to God because you were created to fill a need in the world at this moment. The third sense we must recover is a sense of mission.
5: A Sense of Responsibility
Yellowstone Park is a favorite of travelers. Although there are larger and more powerful geysers than Old Faithful, it is the best known because visitors can always count on seeing it.
6. A Sense of Humor
Things will not always work out as we hope. People do not behave as we would like. Our best efforts may collapse in failure. A sense of humor can save us from anger, disappointment, and discouragement.
7. A Genuine Nickel
Peter tells us that Christ will give us everything we need to live life to the fullest. Only in Jesus Christ can we reach our highest potential. Through Jesus we are reborn to a living hope, to a righteous life, and ultimately to victory. We will receive our inheritance, the fulfillment of Christ’s promise of his eternal presence.
