7. A Genuine Nickel

His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness.

Peter tells us that Christ will give us everything we need to live life to the fullest. Only in Jesus Christ can we reach our highest potential. Through Jesus we are reborn to a living hope, to a righteous life, and ultimately to victory. We will receive our inheritance, the fulfillment of Christ’s promise of his eternal presence.

All of our needs are provided for through God’s gifts. We must, however, put forth the effort to develop and use what is given to us. No person comes immediately into the inheritance. The Christian life is a continual progress upward.

When we have been given the five senses we have discussed, we will be worth far more than that proverbial plugged nickel. When we have a sense of God’s presence, when we know we are important to God, when we find a mission in life, and do it with all our hearts, when we can laugh at the stranger quirks of human nature, and especially at our own, we have replaced the useless center of that plugged nickel with worthwhile material. We will not lack any good things as we live our lives for Jesus Christ.

For Reflection: Have I asked for the divine power of Jesus Christ to fill my life?

A Prayer Seed:

O Jesus, Thou hast promised to all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory there shall Thy servant be;
And, Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow, my Master and my Friend!
