2. Plan Ahead

The ants are a people without strength, yet they provide their food in the summer.

One of my favorite pastimes as a child was watching ants as they moved around the ant hill. These little creatures have six legs, but no wings. Their eyes are very tiny, but their brains are large in proportion to their size. They how how to work and how to play; how to help the injured and bury the dead; and how to be a part of a family.

The writer of Proverbs commends the ants for one thing in particular, their foresight. They prepare food in the summer for the long winter months.

The best preparation we can make for the future is a firm commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord. It cannot be postponed, anymore than an ant can put off gathering food for winter!

Jesus made this very clear in his story of the bridesmaids - five were ready when the groom came and five were left out because they were unprepared. There is a tendency to put off the things of God until some future time when we are not so busy with the cares of the world. Our newspapers remind us daily through their accounts of sudden death that such preparation cannot be postponed.

For Reflection: What important planning have I postponed?

A Prayer Seed:

Rejoice, rejoice, believers, and let your lights appear;
The evening is advancing, and darker night is near:
The Bridegroom is arising, and soon He draweth nigh;
Up, pray, and watch, and wrestle: At midnight comes the cry.
