5. Jesus

He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else?

Reading: Romans 8:31-39

How can we doubt the love of God when we see its self-giving in the person of Jesus? When the people whom God loved did not receive that message, God sent the ultimate love letter.

A God who only wished us well would not be a God on whom we can depend. We need a God whose love includes a plan for carrying out God's purposes, and the power to make the plan succeed.

Jesus is the love letter which guarantees that God not only has a plan, but has done all that is needed to assure its success. We can be sure that a God who loves sacrificially will provide everything we need for the future. Nothing which a loving God can give will be withheld.

This love letter assures us that there is nothing in the future which can ever separate us from the One who loves us. We are held securely within God's care. We can conquer every trial of life if we have responded to God's love letter, Jesus Christ.

For Reflection: Do I trust God's loving care for me?

A Prayer Seed:

Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past,
Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last,
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.
